DUT Made a Breakthrough in PCT Patent Applications

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) released its 2019 data on PCT patent applications lately. Dalian University of Technology published a total of 141 applications, ranking 7th among educational institutions worldwide and 4th among universities in China, up 37 and 4 places respectively compared to last year’s ranking.



PCT is the abbreviation of Patent Cooperation Treaty, which is an international cooperation treaty in the field of patents. PCT makes it possible to seek patent protection for an invention simultaneously in each of a large number of countries by filing an international” patent application. PCT and foreign authorized patents are important indicators to enhance the international impact of scientific and technological achievements. In addition, they are very important to the international strategic layout of the development of first-class universities.

In recent years, DUT has attached great importance and been taking various measures to promote the international cooperation in intellectual property rights (IPR). DUT held series of IPR publicity activities on campus regularly, providing policy publicity and practice training to schools and departments; and also has actively expanded the exchange and cooperation with WIPO, participated in the International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva, which is one of the world’s oldest and largest exhibitions of inventions, for five consecutive times and won 10 gold awards. It has effectively enhanced the international influence of the university’s intellectual property work and promoted the construction of world-class university as well.
