The International Cooperation Base for Research on Safe and Efficient Mining of Gas Hydrate

The Base has long been engaged in the research and development (R&D) of key technologies for safe and efficient exploitation of natural gas hydrate. It has established a long-term mechanism for cooperation and exchange and joint talent training with related international institutions, enjoying a profound influence in international R&D of natural gas hydrate. In recent years, aiming at China’s major needs for exploitation of natural gas hydrate in the South China Sea, the Base has carried out related research on basic theories and experiments focusing on the safety and efficiency of natural gas hydrate exploitation, and formed its distinctive features in research.

So far, the Base has established long-term cooperation with more than 20 internationally renowned scholars from the United States, Germany, Japan, Australia, Singapore and other countries. Over the past five years, 36 overseas scholars have been invited to the Base for lectures and visits. The cooperation has yielded fruitful results, including being awarded a second prize of the National Natural Science Award, a first prize of the Science Research Famous Achievement Award in Higher Institution, and a first prize of the Liaoning Provincial Technological Invention Award, publishing more than 440 SCI papers, and cultivating 7 state-level young talents, and 13 provincial and ministerial-level talents. These related theoretical and technological achievements play an important role in China’s two pilot exploitations of natural gas hydrate in the South China Sea.

National International Joint Research Center for Structural Optimization Theory and Application

The International Joint Research Center of Structural Optimization Theory and Applications, approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) in September 2013, is a national base for global scientific and technological cooperation. Relying on Mechanics, one of the national first-level key disciplines, and DUT's State Key Laboratory of Analysis for Industrial Equipment, the Center boasts sophisticated scientific research and teaching faculties including academicians of the CAS and CAE, fellows of the National Academy of Engineering of Korea (NAEK), foreign academicians of Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), global high-level professionals, distinguished professors of Changjiang Scholars, winners of National Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholars, and 973 chief scientists.

Taking scientific demand of national and international frontier disciplines into account, the Center has made achievements with its own characteristics in such fields as advanced theories and algorithmic research of the structural optimization, symplectic theories and methods for mechanical analysis of complex structural systems, integrated development platforms for structure analysis and optimization, the application of structural optimization theory and method in engineering structures of major equipment. It has won National Prize for Natural Sciences, National Award for Technological Invention and other major awards. With national first-rate comprehensive strength and level of scholarship in terms of structural optimization, the Center takes the lead in global academia and was named "excellent" by the National Center for Science and Technology Evaluation in 2020. In addition, it has explored more avenues to exchange with more than 50 world top-level research organizations from over 17 countries, including the Technical University of Denmark, Korea Advance Institute of Science and Technology, the University of Oxford and the Lomonosov Moscow State University. It has achieved remarkable gains through joint school-running, talent cultivation, exchanges of visits, and project cooperation, which underpins the structural optimization and innovative designs of major industrial equipment of the state.

International Joint Research Center on Ocean Engineering

Focusing on the world cutting-edge technology in the field of "Ocean Engineering", the International Joint Research Center of Ocean Engineering, was jointly established relying on the State Key Laboratory of Coastal and Offshore Engineering, Dalian University of Technology and the first-class overseas scientific research institutions, such as the Center for Offshore Foundation System of the University of Western Australia. Based on the "project-talent-base" model in international scientific and technological cooperation, the Center strives to improve the quality and level of international sci-tech cooperation, with the aim to build a discipline cluster of Ocean Engineering with international influence, and play a leading and demonstrative role in this field.

Through scientific research cooperation, talent cultivation, academic exchanges, jointly-built bases and other channels, it has built a solid international cooperation network with more than 40 universities and research institutes from 18 countries. Undertaking eight international talent training programs, it has built a first-class international training platform for the top-notch professionals engaging in Ocean Engineering.

National International Science and Technology Cooperation Center of Supramolecular Chemistry and Catalysis

International Joint Research Center for Supramolecular Chemistry and Catalysis was established in 2018, based upon chemistry and chemical engineering related interdisciplinary background of Dalian University of Technology, State Key Lab of Fine Chemicals, and 111 Project of Fine Chemicals. Aiming at the major national strategic needs and major market demands, the International Joint Research Center utilizes the new concept and methodology of supramolecular chemistry for the multidimensional benign iteration of molecules, functions, processes, products, and environments, and organizes the product-oriented international cooperation and technical innovation. The International Joint Research Center constructs “One Center, Three Platforms, Twelve Teams” under the help of foreign cooperators such as University of Amsterdam, leading the development of novel interdisciplinary “Supramolecular Chemistry & Fine Chemicals”. The current director of International Joint Research Center of China side is Prof. Chunying Duan (winner of National Science Fund for Outstanding Young Scholars, the Dean of Zhangdayu School of Chemistry); the director of Dutch side is Prof. Joost Reek (University of Amsterdam, the academician of KNAW); the vice dean and permanent secretary is Prof. Tiexin Zhang (State Key Lab of Fine Chemicals).
