More than 20 teachers and students from Yokohama National University (YNU), Japan came to DUT for short-term exchanges the other day. During the visit, they had various and colorful activities in China including ice-breaking football games, basic Chinese courses, outdoor real-world simulation oral courses, company visits, special lectures, cultural experiences, and community experiences, and developed a deep friendship with teachers and students from the International Office, the School of International Education, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Materials and Energy, the Faculty of Electronic Information and Electrical Engineering, and the School of Foreign Languages of DUT.
1. Ice-breaking Activity: A Friendly Football Match
On the second day on their arrival, in order to quickly eliminate the strangeness of the students, DUT organized a friendly football match between the two sides at the Xishan Football Field, which rapidly increased mutual understanding and improved the tacit cooperation between the teams, integrating the students from both sides into a whole group.
2. Language learning: Colorful Chinese Courses
During the exchange, YNU students audited different classes of the School of International Education according to their Chinese proficiency and took a one-week Chinese course (including Chinese grammar, Chinese conversation, Chinese dictation, etc.) with international students of DUT. At the same time, the School of International Education also set up an "outdoor real-world simulation oral course" for YNU students, guiding students to use the Chinese expressions they have learned in the classroom in their real life. This special experience was unanimously acclaimed by YNU students.
3. Company visit: Toshiba Medical System R&D (Dalian) Co., Ltd.
In order to further increase the students' understanding of the system, status quo, and needs for talents of Japanese companies in China, DUT organized a visit to Toshiba Medical System R&D (Dalian) Co., Ltd. (hereinafter TMDL). Mr. Akihiko Urushihara, Mr. Yuichi Kasuya, deputy general managers of TMDL, Mr. Takeharu Yoneshima, director of Software Development of R&D Department, Mr. Xu Hongtao, chief of Mechanical Analysis Section of R&D Department, and other relevant personnel of the company received the students. They introduced the situation and product R&D of the company to the students and answered their questions in detail. Afterwards, the students visited the company's facilities the students asked questions about Japanese working in China, showed their interest in working in China, and increased their motivation for Chinese language learning.
4. Featured Lecture: "Cultivating International Talents Project"
During the exchange, Professor Masahisa Suzuki from the International Strategic Promotion Agency, YNU visited DUT and gave a lecture entitled "Future Objectives for Global Leaders" for the students of the two universities. The lecture was vivid and explained the profound in simple terms, helping students understand the importance of teamwork through mini-games.
5. Cultural Experience: Making Dumplings and Visiting Dalian
In order to deepen the Yokohama students' knowledge and understanding of traditional Chinese culture, DUT organized a dumpling party for students from both sides. Most Yokohama students said that it was an unforgettable experience to make dumplings for the first time. At the same time, during the exchange, DUT also organized Yokohama teachers and students to visit Dalian Xinghai Square, Yamato Hotel (Dalian Hotel today), Russian Style Street, Dalian Style Street, Lvshun Museum, 203 Highland, Baiyu Mountain, and other cultural attractions, so that the visiting teachers and students could have a comprehensive understanding of the history and customs of Dalian city.
6. Campus Cultural Experience: Clubs and Associations
In order to help YNU students understand the campus culture of DUT in all aspects, DUT students took them to some of DUT’s club activities. The rich form and wonderful content of DUT's club activities surprised YNU students.
The short ten-day exchange soon came to an end. In the final presentation, students reported what they had seen, heard, and felt during the ten days in DUT, expressing the joy of broadening their horizons and establishing friendship. Wang Jue, deputy director of the International Office, DUT, issued certificates of completion to YNU students. DUT students also made a commemoration video for YNU students, with unwillingness and sorrow for parting in a warm atmosphere. Students of both sides agreed to meet again in Yokohama or Dalian next year!
