Corporate Responsibility is a concept that has been discussed by U.S. firms for about a century. It focuses on the theory that firms have responsibilities to a wide range of stakeholders. These responsibilities are a function of the social compact between the firm and the society in which it operates. Strategic Philanthropy is a relatively new concept. U.S. firms have engaged in philanthropic activities for well over a century but until recently those activities have not been integrated into the firms’ strategic objectives. In the last decade or two U.S. firms have refined their philanthropic activities to better align them with their broader strategic focus. This has led to actions that result in both profits and socially positive outcomes.

企业社会责任是美国企业已经讨论了大约一个世纪的概念。它专注于企业对大范围的利益相关者负有责任的理论。这些责任是企业和它运营的社会之间的一项社会契约功能。

2.   Dr. Philip L. Cochran简历

Philip L. Cochran is the Executive Associate Dean - Indianapolis for Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business. He holds the Thomas W. Binford Chair in Corporate Citizenship. He is the Director of the Randall L. Tobias Center for Leadership Excellence. He is also Professor of Management at Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business and Professor of Philanthropic Studies at Indiana University’s Lilly Family School of Philanthropy. Professor Cochran received a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering and a B.S. in Management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He also received an M.B.A. in Finance, an M.A. in Economics, and a Ph.D. in Business, Government, and Society from the University of Washington. Prof. Cochran’s research is in the areas of corporate social responsibility, corporate philanthropy, leadership, corporate strategy, corporate citizenship, business ethics, and corporate governance. He is the author of articles that have appeared in such journals as: Strategic Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Business Ethics, Business and Society, California Management Review, Journal of Public Affairs, Contemporary Issues in Business and Society, Industrial Crisis Quarterly and Management International Review. Prof. Cochran has spoken at numerous conferences including as a Keynote Speaker at the Second Russian Business Ethics Conference in Moscow, Russia and an expert speaker on corporate governance and ethics at a U.S.I.A. sponsored conference in Bangkok, Thailand.
