As one of the series of the Anniversary Commemoration of the Cooperation between Dalian University of Technology and Japanese Partner Universities Online, the 20th Anniversary of Friendly Exchanges between Dalian University of Technology and Hirosaki University was successfully held in a hybrid online and offline format on December 2.
Xia Shaojie, Deputy Consul General of the Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Sapporo,said that the vivid example of close cooperation between DUT and HU implemented the initiative of the leaders of the two countries to strengthen exchanges and cooperation, and 2022 is the 50th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between China and Japan, he hoped that the two universities will continue to contribute to the educational cooperation between the two countries.
Todoriki Ken, Director of the Consular Office of Japan in Dalian, expressed his heartfelt respect for this innovative form of online exchange between DUT and HU under the background of the COVID-19 epidemic, and expressed his appreciation to Dalian City and DUT for the importance they given to the exchange and cooperation with Japan. He also looked forward to the two universities working together to cultivate outstanding talents who can shoulder the future of China and Japan.
Hu Bingman, Vice President of Dalian People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, stated that the 20 years of friendly exchanges between DUT and HU is a good example of Sino-Japanese non-governmental exchanges, and the Foreign Affairs Office of the Dalian Municipal People’s Government and Dalian People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries will, as always, fully support the development of exchanges between the two universities.
Shinsaku Fukuda, President of Hirosaki University (HU), said that the international exchange between HU and DUT is one of the most active exchanges in the university’s interaction with partner universities, and the two universities are always committed to building a platform for exchange and cooperation in higher education between China and Japan. He expressed his gratitude once again for DUT’s generous support of surgical masks to HU during the most severe period of the Covid-19 epidemic in 2020. He hoped to continue to deepen cooperation with DUT in the future and contribute to the education of both countries.
Guo Dongming, President of Dalian University of Technology (DUT), emphasized that the two universities have carried out rich mutual student visits in the form of Sakura Science Exchange Program, academic seminars, and short-term cultural and scientific exchange camps, which based on frequent cooperation and exchange between teachers, and have yielded fruitful results and deepened the friendship between the two universities. He hoped to work with HU and other overseas partner universities to build a platform for exchange between Chinese and Japanese youth, promote the “Schoolfellow Friendship” Initiative of famous universities in both countries, and make more contributions to serve the overall interests of Sino-Japanese friendship.
Luo Zhongxuan,the University Leader for International Affairs of DUT, proposed to continue to promote the “online + offline” higher education exchange model with overseas partner universities such as HU in the post-epidemic era, hoping to work together to overcome the difficulties and provide sufficent platforms for building schoolfellow friendship.
Atsushi Yoshizawa, Vice President of HU, said that about 70% of HU’s international students come from China, and the first overseas office of HU was established in School of Energy and Power Engineering, DUT, hoping that the two universities will further strengthen cooperation and promote common development.
At the meeting, Guo Dongming and Shinsaku Fukuda exchanged souvenirs for the 20th anniversary of cooperation between the two universities in the presence of all the participants.
More than 70 people attended the event, including representatives from Faculty of Science and Technology of HU, School of International Education, School of Energy and Power Engineering, and School of Foreign Languages of DUT, and Japanese companies in Dalian. After the meeting, Cong Fengyu, the director of International Office, DUT, and KAORI, head of International Office, HU, introduced the international exchange and cooperation policies of the two universities to the teachers and students. Taniguchi Hui, General Manager of Jalis (Dalian) Education Consulting Co., Ltd also shared her living and working experience in Dalian.
In the afternoon, nearly 100 students and teachers from School of Foreign Languages and School of Energy and Power Engineering of DUT, and Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and Faculty of Science and Technology of HU conducted online exchange activities respectively.
